The Dark Knight

Friday, October 10th, 2008 | Movie | No Comments

The Dark Knight is a direct sequel from Batman Begins. It’s definitely the best Batman movie. Ever. Period.

Err, wait. This could actually be called The Joker Movie. Seriously. What’s great about this movie is the Joker character. The cruel psycho Joker is really the real focus in this movie. While the Batman scene is so-so, the Joker scene almost always gives a terrifying psycho act. You won’t have another opinion about Joker except psycho. He enjoys torturing and killing people. He has no reason for doing that. Just for his own pleasure.

The Dark Knight stands in top 4 in imdb top 250 all time movie chart. Definitely a movie to watch, whether you’re a Batman fan, a movie lover, or just trying to watch some good movies.

WALL·E

Friday, October 10th, 2008 | Movie | No Comments

Another Pixar masterpiece. It’s definitely on my top 3 Pixar movies, along With Finding Nemo and Cars.

WALL·E is about robot named WALL·E which is built to clean the messy earth. During the task, he eventually falls in love with explorer robot called EVE. EVE’s task is to find life green plant in earth. The story is focused on WALL·E and EVE’s relationship, with extra story about future human living in big spaceship, spoiled by technology. They get lazy. The technology created makes them do nothing to live. The have everything done by robots. The human beings drawn as fat figure sitting in automatic chair. All they do are only open their eyes and mouth, and the robots to the rest.

The movie has very little spoken dialog, but somehow the expression given by the robots are very clear an cute. We could understand what they’re trying to say, their feeling through the expression given. Watching the Indonesian dubbed version with Wita, we have no trouble understanding the story. Kudos to Pixar for such great animation.

For me, this is a very recommended movie to watch. I myself plan to have the dvd (the-you-know-what version of course).

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor

OK, so I missed few movie reviews. I missed Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and The Dark Knight review. I’ll try to catch up later. It’s better to write recent movies I watch because it’s still in my head.

Accompanied by Wita, the summer movie frenzy is continued. Well, it’s not summer anymore in US, but here in Indonesia, we have summer all the time. Also, the release date in Indonesia doesn’t always follow the original US release. For one movie, Indonesians could get the same release date and for another movie, we get 3 months separated.

Enough with the chit-chat. Oh, for the information, I didn’t really watch the first and the second movie, so I don’t have enough information about it. I only watched in on television, and didn’t watch it full. The movie itself pretty entertaining, but the story is not so strong. It’s simply pointless action. And Jet Li didn’t do good as villain there. Well, Jet Li is well known as a hero, and he has the look to be a hero. Being a villain is just not his thing.

I think, as Wita said, I have to watch the first and the second movie because they are a lot better than this one.

Prince Caspian

Tuesday, May 20th, 2008 | Movie | No Comments

Last weekend I and my girlfriend managed to watch Prince Caspian, the second movie of The Chronicles of Narnia, a series of fantasy novel written by C. S. Lewis. To tell you the truth, I have no idea what Narnia is all about. I haven’t read the books, I didn’t even watch its first movie, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. My only reason to watch this was because this about fantasy world.

The movie is began with the birth of son of Prince Miraz, the uncle of Prince Caspian. Then there’s plot to kill the Prince Caspian because Prince Miraz got a son, which could be the next King. Caspian ran to the woods, which I presumed belongs to Narnia. From there I knew that the whole movie was about getting the castle back to Prince Caspian.

The story is easy to guess. I believe you could guess the ending, especially if you have watched lot of movies. One thing I like from the movie is the picture of how fantasy kingdom should be. It definitely what my childhood dream about fantasy kingdom is about. Noble king (kings and queens, in this case), loyal citizens, various type of living beings.

Overall, I was satisfied. It’s good and I recommend you to watch it. ASAP. Because it’s summer movie frenzy. Next in the line, Indiana Jones.

Iron Man

Monday, May 12th, 2008 | Movie | No Comments

Finally I watched Iron Man with my girlfriend. It’s a very entertaining movie.

When I first found out that Robert Downey Jr. will playing Tony Stark character, I knew the movie will be great. Not that I know who Robert Bowney Jr. is. I knew nothing about him. I only knew that he played in Ally McBeal series.

And for the Iron Man character, another zero knowledge from me other than few tv animation series I watched and comic books I read. My childhood heroes was mutant-type. I only followed Spiderman and X-Men stories. And my first impression when I was watching Iron Man was, “boy! this guy is uber g33k!”. Oh I loooove all his gadgets Truly the best set of gadgets superhero ever has. What? Batman’s? Not even close.

The movie itself was entertaining (oh, I repeated, didn’t I?). The special effects were great. The dialogs were clever and some time humorous. The ending was quite good. Of course you couldn’t get all your questions answered. That’ll be taken care by the sequel. Oh yes, I believe there will be (at least) a sequel. And I really want the sequel.

You should watch it yourself. It’s useless if you only read every single review but you never watch yourself. Summer movie frenzy is just started. You better watch it now, or you will be late for ever.
